Katie, the youngest person ever to appear on Extreme Makeover, had been wearing braces for several years, but her mandible continued to grow, resulting in chewing problems and an unattractive underbite. This was a girl who had never moved on to womanhood because her braces kept her “trapped” as a teenager. Dr. Tim Silegy performed orthognathic surgery (also known as jaw surgery). After she recovered, Dr. Dorfman placed 6 veneers and Dr. Anthony Griffin, a plastic surgeon lengthened Katie’s short upper lip. These procedures, combined with weight loss, a new hairstyle, make-up and a new wardrobe, transformed Katie into a beautiful young woman. Katie’s big “reveal” was filmed on March 8th. Her episode was broadcast Thursday, April 14th at 9:00 p.m. on ABC.
