Wisdom Teeth Extractions

Ensuring for your Comfort is our #1 Priority

Wisdom Teeth Extractions

Wisdom teeth typically come in during your teenage years. Often, though, they fail to break completely through the gums or erupt at an awkward angle. These teeth can press against other healthy teeth and damage those teeth or cause them to grow crooked.

Wisdom teeth that do manage to erupt into the mouth are also notoriously difficult to clean, which makes them prone to decay. Dr. Silegy has extracted thousands of impacted wisdom teeth over the years with great success. Before wisdom teeth cause pain or overcrowding in your mouth, is usually the best time to take them out. Dr. Silegy can confirm the best timing for wisdom tooth removal and schedule you for the next available surgical appointment.

Wisdom Teeth Extraction Steps

Phase 1: Exam & Planning

Your dentist will usually refer you for a consultation for your wisdom teeth when they see they are well formed and easiest for removal. At your initial consultation, we will perform a thorough oral examination that includes a high-definition 3D digital CT scan (CBCT) of your upper and lower jaws. This allows us to identify where important anatomical structures are located to help us plan the best treatment pathway to minimize post operative pain and risks. We will discuss anesthetic options and what to expect on the day of your surgery and the days following. Following the clinical planning phase, we will review the procedure timeline and the investment, as well as various payment options to ensure the treatment fits comfortably within your budget.

Phase 2: On the day of your extraction appointment

On the day of your extraction appointment: you will not have had anything by mouth for 12 hours prior to your appointment. It is important that you arrive to our office with the person who will be helping to care for you following the procedure. For your comfort, we will administer the anesthetic of choice that we previously determined with you to be most appropriate for ensuring the best experience for you. Most patients will be “sleeping” during the procedure, which will usually take 60-90 minutes from the time you arrive until you are ready to leave. You will have post-operative instructions that you will take home with you and will need to plan to simply rest for the day of and following the procedure.

Phase 3: One week following your extraction appointment

One week following your extraction appointment, you will return to the office to check your healing and remove any stitches. After this appointment, you can return to normal activities.
